When I was blind

in a very small world

within my mind’s eye

there once lay the thought

of an undiscovered space, so beautiful

arrived at by means

of a lovely, tree-lined

light-filtered path

Within a shared dream

this would become our meeting ground

to which we could return

again and again, even as

our journey carried us forward

beyond vast waters

toward the distant line

where earth meets sky

Then, at the close of life’s measured time

shining in the light

of the glistening stars

ever bestowed with

the lightness of being

we would gratefully rejoice

in the transformative power

of a single thought

of unity

But now,  I see

I opened the front door

There stood little me

I was young once more

looked to be the age of three

I began to  wonder where I’d come from

it was so early; before the sun

there was not another soul around

the world was still; there wasn’t a sound

I gathered my small self and off we went

to find out what this unexpected appearance meant

Hand in hand, we went on our way

neither of us had very much to say

Our journey together, took us through the seasons

when finally, we discovered, what must be the reason:

To find yourself you must go back, and search far

then, meet near the middle, to see why, you are

False love comes in an array of guises

many of which affect our sight

but that which you allow to enter your heart

should make you and your world feel light

True love does not rip your soul apart

it simply fills you with joy, breath, and life

No need to wrap it up

shouldn’t hide it ‘neath the tree

it’s much too special for that

anyone would have to agree

it’s okay to be seen; also heard

the perfect fit, just like a glove

the only cost a willing heart

to give the world, the gift of love

I found myself today

I had been lost in the moment

as I walked toward a distant light

I looked upward to see the most brilliant blue

but not to feel it; I breathed deeply

without holding my shallow breath

Beauty filled these brimming eyes as

I stood before an ever-changing world

I saw the hope of my future while

the despair of my past faded from view

And although death’s darkness had

stolen irretrievable bits of my heart

life firmly grasped my waiting hands

Flew in the sky

saw the cloud sea

Rode the swift rails

falling asleep

Sat on the top shelf

when not hopping off

Raced through the ground

hanging on, so tough

Walked miles and miles

up stairs and down

Then in ten different ways

repeated, to the first town

 After days of a dozen

zigzagged our way back

to the real wide world

with its own set of tracks
