When I was blind

in a very small world

within my mind’s eye

there once lay the thought

of an undiscovered space, so beautiful

arrived at by means

of a lovely, tree-lined

light-filtered path

Within a shared dream

this would become our meeting ground

to which we could return

again and again, even as

our journey carried us forward

beyond vast waters

toward the distant line

where earth meets sky

Then, at the close of life’s measured time

shining in the light

of the glistening stars

ever bestowed with

the lightness of being

we would gratefully rejoice

in the transformative power

of a single thought

of unity

But now,  I see

Open the windows of your shuttered mind

to the unencumbered breeze of fresh thought

Let it gently spread; swirling through half-opened

doors into darkened corners to remove

the stale, stagnant, settled dust of the past

allowing for very good use of the space

Finding Your Mind

This is empty

this is blue

this has holes in it

everything fell through

There was no net

just blacker blue

just empty space

where I thought I knew you

There are two sides, if sides

must be taken; then taken

each side is a right side

(if sides need be labeled so)

A right angle is formed

if sides meet in the middle

to share the space of the

newly connective corner

Round, round, round; outside, then in

so this revolving life does spin

all to the tunes of their coming in

Filling up, filling in

every space inside my head

until it weighs a lot like lead

mixed up with a bit of dread

from things said, to the things unsaid

just never what you had in mind

though like a love-lost fool, you’d pined

for the times before, left behind

when everyone seemed more of one kind

Round, round, round; inside, then away

leaving you sad-songed from the fray

Through the door to find the way

a bit dizzy, you pick up the day

My heart is big

but not big enough

to hide the hurt behind

when you forget me

or speak words unkind

My heart is strong

but not strong enough

to lift the pain away

when you ignore me

or hold me at bay

My heart is full of love

but not full enough

sadness still finds a space

when I rest my eyes

on your empty face

Flagging

Right down the middle

you broke my red heart

There’s just empty white space

between the two rusted parts

It can’t be filled

everything falls through

No longer whole

my breath turns blue
