I am the sum of my parts
I am part of the sum
enlarged heart
I am a speck of sand
I am as vast as the ocean
two open hands
I am too lost to find
I am in your eyes
small mind
I am all
I am nothing
humble soul
I am you
If your jumbled mind is all-a-clutter
retrieve your heart’s shards from the dark gutter
Speak over the chaos with no hint of a stutter
so the wings of your soul can begin to flutter
Then wait for the wisp of a gentle breeze
Let it lift your spirit from its knees
to twirl in dance as it sets free
a mended heart; a mind at ease
This heart belongs to others
friend, lover, mother’s gift
given away freely, bit by bit by bit

All a jumble, numbered by days
this mind is no one’s, not even mine
certainly doomed to be lost in time

But never to be stolen or sold
my soul is mine, mine alone
the greatest treasure I’ll ever own

Leaving the grocery, I was told
I have a beautiful green soul
by the guy with a space
where a tooth should be in place
Then, as the car began to roll
Mumford and Sons sang Away My Soul
I thought about what all this means
how I guess a soul could be green
At the movie theater nearby
I was helped by a guy
who, when looking into his eyes
I witnessed the most beautiful green
soul-windows I believe I have seen
So taken was I, I told him so
as he handed me the tickets to go
I then hurried on my way
for it was a special day
where years have passed since our first date
so we had good cause to celebrate
But I’ll be happier still with this fate
if he is truly, my beautiful green soulmate
