It’s not all gloom and it’s not all doom

we’ll get through, though we are on the brink

fortunately, we have  brains that can think

Minds are joining to learn what to do

while hands will work to see the job through

In our separate homes

we don’t have to feel alone

if we use even one of the ways

we can reach out to each other, in a day

There are many, so many, hearts that must give

just so that, they and humanity, can truly live

Maybe right now, we cannot touch hands

but certainly, we can all try to dance

There are millions of songs to sing

simply for the soul-lifting joy they bring

We can seek out laughter, to keep the opposite at bay

bright eyes and smiles can definitely lighten the way

And when fear starts to creep into your head

if it’s daytime, stay busy;  if night, read a good book before bed

In the morning, look to nature for the lessons it may bring

after the darkest storm, the sky becomes a cloudless, deep blue, and the birds sing

And in this moment, even amidst the turmoil, still, we can embrace the beauty of a brand new spring

The tiny seed knows its place

becomes well-rooted

before showing her face

Drawn to the beauty of light

she stretches upward

to live within its sight

She drinks deeply from the sky

every time it falls

to splash and land, nearby

Limited by what she knows

she lives her whole life

reflecting on sun’s glow

and yet, somehow, she grows

When I was blind

in a very small world

within my mind’s eye

there once lay the thought

of an undiscovered space, so beautiful

arrived at by means

of a lovely, tree-lined

light-filtered path

Within a shared dream

this would become our meeting ground

to which we could return

again and again, even as

our journey carried us forward

beyond vast waters

toward the distant line

where earth meets sky

Then, at the close of life’s measured time

shining in the light

of the glistening stars

ever bestowed with

the lightness of being

we would gratefully rejoice

in the transformative power

of a single thought

of unity

But now,  I see

Oh, glorious sky of day

coaxing this darkness from where it lay

Open your eyes,”  I hear you say

Joining sun, you pull these blues away

All is well; my fears allay

Oh, velvety sky of night

soak this heart in brilliant starlight

make it sparkle; golden and bright

Unleash the dreams behind these eyes

as past and present become allies

The eight semi-clear panes of the kitchen window

filter many unresolved and repeating thoughts

which drift soundlessly from my multicaverned head

into the crisp, clear, breathtakingly deep, blue sky

that you always fill so completely

every time I remember you

and that you’ve died

But I can never understand why

And then, the rains came

to wash the disappointment

from the soles of our feet

Thus, we chose to dance

’til our skin was soft once more

The rain dance took days

while the sky fell to the ground

After, we walked forward

 feeling solid earth again

They were too close

to breathe; stopped

by all manner of bricks

which pseudo-hit

through the years

or at least, her

so that even though

dancing together

again after a long

passage of time

in satisfactory rhythm

the starry night sky

captured her gaze in

a way more familiar
