Yes, you’ve described myself and probably 80% of the population or more. We say we don’t care to protect ourselves, at the same time as knowing we do.

Well- written- nice job! And, I wholeheartedly agree. Saying you don’t care even when you do often makes things easier at first but can create even bigger issues later. But, even with this knowledge I use this escape all the time to avoid confrontation.
