Mirror girl
where’s your smile
teeth still bright
nothing to hide
Mirror girl
who are you
not a mute
but so subdued
Mirror girl
show your face
fears abate
scars do fade
Mirror girl
why sad eyes
seek the light
the glow inside
Mirror girl
walk away
see the gate
past makes way
Mirror girl
what’s this mood
take a look
an image imbued
Mirror girl
mirror girl
the mirror
is you
It’s often when looking in the mirror that folks realise their true abilities in life, or find renewed determination – following conversations with themselves like this one.
Awesome! xx
That is so true… 🙂
Although this was a serious poem, the short lines made me read it to the beat of a skipping rope, and when I did, it seemed perfect, both as a serious poem and as a skipping rhyme. Of course many children’s poems contain age-old wisdoms, as does this. I’ll have to read it to my granddaughter now and see if she’ll skip to it!
Thank you … hope it is fun for her.
Yes what you see staring back
You should ask questions and attack
If the need be
If not just laugh with glee
I like the laughing idea.
Spoken beautifully and totally different to how I read it.
Thank you, Tino.
what i read in this is that sometimes only reflections of us are left because we so adapt to our environment and we should ask those questions more often i guess..thanks for the reminder..
I like your interpretation of this. 🙂
Great questioning and prompting in the speaker’s addressing of Mirror girl. It’s good to talk to the mirror from time to time, even if we don’t like the answers staring back. Excellent poem.
Thank you, Adam. Yes, always ask the questions, even if the answers will never be forthcoming.
I wondered as I read this …how many people stop at the mirror and have a similar conversation when no one else is around?….enjoyed this.
Thank you, Charles… yes, I am sure there are many.
It’s nice that the voice is encouraging instead of discouraging. I like that about this one because sometimes those voices can be negative 🙂
I like encouraging voices, too. thanks for your comment.
i think there are many things, like this, we should say to ourselves whenever we dare look in the mirror…nice write…
Thank you, Brian.
