Ocean, my huge friend
smells of salt as he drifts near
off guard, I am caught
when he rolls over my feet
pulling me into his lap
≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈ ≈
Cold spray hits my face
though he’s large, he’s such a tease
I try to escape
but land in his bubbly wash
he waves and I laugh
ha!
perfect title.

Lovely – makes me miss the seaside! xx
A relationship that plays is a relationship that stays.
So true, so true.
I don’t think I’ve ever thought of the ocean as a man, but it makes sense. I love it!
Thank you… I guess I think of it this way because it is big and powerful. Thank you for reading and the nice comments.
Heartspell you just did what I was talking about with another writer – the Salish Indians on westcoast Canada used to sing a prayer of apology to the ocean when they launched their fishing canoes. They spoke to it as if it was a person – a great person – just as you did in this poem. I love it, especially the line, I am caught when he rolls over my feet. That amazing feeling when the waves come in and steal the sand from under your soles, and you stand there, waiting for it to slurp you up – precious moments, exciting, invigorating.
Good poem, heartspell.
Thank you for that insight into the Salish Indians… that was so interesting. Thank you for the sweet comments.
With first quick read, I was all “Hmmm?” And then it hit me. What a clever amd entertaining piece. Thanks!
I am glad you were entertained by this; how nice! 🙂

“he waves” awesome play on that. Wonderful personification, use of double entendre, and depiction of a fun relationship. Excellent poem
Thank you, Adam. The ocean is one of my favorite places… I am awed by its vastness and beauty every time I go.
